Writing is a way of recording language in a visible form and giving it relative permanence. You can preserve information through video recording, audio recording, or by keeping them in your memory but these ways couldn’t exceed the capabilities of writing. Writing allows not only the storage of immense amounts of information but its transmission to wherever a written message may be conveyed.
Therefore, writing is a very powerful instrument for transmitting culture from generation to generation. It is responsible for the development and the continuation of complex civilizations.
There were civilizations which were able to preserve their knowledge through verbal transmission and sheer painstaking memorization. However this process has limitations. There are changes that might happen with the transmitted knowledge over a long period of time and there are such great knowledge and information which will be forgotten in the long run.
When humans started to write thousands of years ago (a very long time ago but a very short time in the span of human history), the body of knowledge which ought to be preserved were given permanence by a lot of authors. However, there were also a number of those precious information and body of knowledge which also had vanished forever. We should have known them if those were preserved.
The preservation of knowledge and the expression of one’s self are what make this tutorial possible. This “A Beginner’s Guide to Writing” will introduce you to the basic of writing. This is not about grammar, vocabulary or whatsoever (I presume that you are familiar with them). I presume that you know the basics like writing a sentence or a paragraph because this won’t teach those things.
This guide is not for the experienced writers. But I would be very honored if you take this guide as a refresher course.
I would also want to clarify that this is a basic guide to writing and this does not teach you how to write online. Online writing is different from any other writing. I’m not going to explain further. Just stay tuned because a Guide on How to Write Online will be posted in this blog soon.
This writing guide is divided into four parts which will be explained further as you go along with the lessons.
1. Pre-writing
2. Writing
3. Revising
4. Editing
For those who are still learning how to write, please be advised to follow the step-by-step process for a better result.
